White on White

white on white

In the midst of going through my favorite Steve Jobs quotes this past week grieving for one of the world’s greatest and most inspiring entrepreneurs, I re-discovered this statement which is – also – perfectly applicable to fashion:

“Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.”

Makes so much sense right now, doesn’t it?

So consequently I’ve made my closet undergo a thorough cleanse (really not much left there) and feel like I’m ready for a fresh start into fall. Literally FRESH. Now what feels fresher than going all-white on a dull fall day? PLUS it is so simple. All I need is to reactivate my white skinny denim (which luckily turned up last weekend – I haven’t taken it off since), get an off-white knit sweater (check Sandro!) and add my favorite pair of strappy sandals (the above ones are Giuseppe Zanotti btw). Now this may not be exactly weather-appropriate but let me tell ya that dressing weather-appropriate is for bores. It just is. As for me, I won’t even bother shopping for autumnal colors (Halloween says hi) but look cool in white on white. Cheers!

Before Carven: Amanda

Amanda Brooks_Barneys

Amanda Brooks before the Carven show at Jardin des Tuileries. She’s been appointed Fashion Director for Barneys NY beginning of this year and was frontrow at all of the shows here in Paris. I have always loved her effortless blend of high-end designer pieces and individual style.

#PFW: Mixed Media at Dries van Noten

Dries van Noten prints

My favorite off-catwalk style so far! I love how this stylish Dries van Noten show-goer expertly mixes different prints, colors and materials. By the way, a super-smart VOGUE editor once said ‘If you can’t match it, CLASH it!’. Remember that when you are desperate in front of your closet;-). X

#PFW: models off-duty

Hanneli Mustaparta

Wide-legged pants and tank tops on Hanneli and her friend. Perfect for the late-summer heat here in PARIS!

Model off-duty at Dries van Noten

Mini leather shorts and a lose-fit white silk top. Simple. Casual. Cool.

Red pants/jeans/corduroys are really having a moment here in Paris. Got a feeling we’ll be seeing them a lot this winter!

Later, babes!

Charlotte

An unexpected and truely refreshing choice for the cover of French Vogue September issue: the gorgeous Charlotte Casiraghi.

In the backseat with Kate Moss

In the backseat Kate Moss wedding

Vogue US just revealed an inside look at THE fashion wedding of the year with a collection of amazing and partially never-seen-before shots by no other than superstar photographer Mario Testino. You HAVE to check this out! It’s gonna be the new benchmark for a dream wedding, seriously! My favourite take? The above is an hommage to Mick & Bianca Jagger’s backseat wedding portrait from 1971. Major!

Oh and the bridemaids line-up wasn’t bad either! From left: Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, Jess Hallett, Kate Moss, Rosemary Ferguson.

Miroslava Duma now blogging!

proenza dress_dries booties

Breaking news! The Sartorialist darling & ex-Harper’s-Russia editor Miroslava Duma started posting her outfits on the Russian online platform Buro 24/7. As a long-time admirer of her polished high-profile look I have spent half of my afternoon decoding cyrillic (!) terms for her individual outfit components. Totally worth the effort, let me tell ya! I am now able to inform you that she is wearing a Proenza Schouler dress in the above picture accessorized with a Marni necklace, a pair of Dries van Noten heels and Céline sunnies:-).

Miroslava in an American Apparel dress, Roger Vivier sandals & Cutler & Gross sunnies.

What I love especially about her style is that she keeps it SIMPLE (never more than four different pieces mixed together) and casually combines statement-making designer gear with highstreet finds.

To the men…

Well, usually the posts on this blog are kind of skewed towards our female readers…so no better occasion to make up for this than during Pitti Uomo in Florence!

Carine’s way…

The other day I was discussing it with Carola and others seem to agree: the “new” Vogue Paris, under the direction of Emmanuelle Alt seems…well, how to put it…it seems quite plain. Don’t get me wrong here!! I love Emanuelle’s work, she is a great stylist and I was always crazy about her editorials! Still, there is something off about the layout of the two latest issues of French Vogue..the font is too basic, everything is just too clean!

With Carine this was different, as she used to clutter the pages with inspiring pieces, sexy details, old pictures and hand-written notes.

I adore this En Vogue spread from December 2005 about the Kate Moss style, featuring Eugenie Niarchos. It is an example par exellence of Carine’s way of doing Vogue:

Miu Miu’s new face

hailee-steinfeld-2011-oscars-05

New talent and True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld is officially the new face of Miu Miu.

14-year old Hailee has given proof of an excellent, and above all age appropriate, style! She has rocked red carpets outfits from Marchesa to Prabal Gurung, but it’s indeed Miu Miu, which suits her the best:

To me Hailee and MiuMiu are a lovely match! What do you think about Miuccia’s choice of the new face??

hailee

Together with Elle Fanning, Hailee represents a new generation of natural and down-to-earth, young actresses, who have fun with fashion, without overdoing it. We want to see more of that!!!
